Leolla Helps is the founder of Northern Twilight Farm. She grew up as a farm kid with working horses in Alberta. In 1973 she purchased her first Welsh Mountain Pony, Illini Nickole, for her daughter Holly to ride.  She has been raising Welsh ponies ever since. Leolla has now  let the younger generations take up the reins of managing Northern Twilight Farm, but she remains as interested as ever in Welsh Mountain Pony breeding. She enjoys watching 'her' ponies compete in many different disciplines, and is a regular at the barn - now driving her golf cart - in the summer months. She lives on the farm and the coffee pot never gets a chance to cool off at her house.

Meet the team

Heather Marko joined our team in 2016. Heather is a professional horse trainer and English instructor. She is available for private and group lessons as well as horse training services at Northern Twilight Farm.

Holly Pottinger owns and manages Northern Twilight Farm. She is a Level 2 Western and Level 1 English CHA Instructor. Holly has a unique teaching style that builds students' personal confidence levels as well as equestrian skills.  Holly's favorite students are the littlest ones because there is nothing more rewarding than introducing kids to the world of horses and ponies. She also draws on years of experience as a professional horse trainer and her own show ring experience to build a well rounded lesson program that emphasizes good communication skills and effective horsemanship for all levels of riders.

Holly can be most often found in the riding arena surrounded by ponies and kids. She still takes horses for training if her teaching schedule allows.

Bibby Graham has a working student position at Northern Twilight Farm.  She is the full time assistant coach for our busy summer camp program.  Bibby's petite size and tenacious personality make her ideally suited as a pony trainer. Under Holly's guidance, Bibby prepares our Welsh ponies for their job as lesson ponies. Bibby will be taking client ponies for training in 2017.

In the shadows to the left we have Witts Pottinger. The right hand man is Grant Pottinger. They make up the 4th generation of farmers. While both are accomplished equestrians in their own right, they play a supporting role in the smooth running of the farm. Witts owns and operates the poultry division of Northern Twilight Farm.
